Mystery in Omakau

Looking at the sold Omakau Commercial, an old building full of secrets, I know mysteries exist inside those doors. One night I decide I'm going to sneak in. Previously, I had stomped on the floor and noticed it sounded hollow. That's why I'm here tonight. Scared for my life, I wonder if anything bad hides behind those doors and roams the halls. I decided to go anyway. Before I go in, I quietly say my goodbyes to all my family, friends, and community (just in case now is my last breath). I try the door handle. Nothing happens. I guess I should have known that it would be locked. After a minute of looking I see it, the answer to all my problems.

I see a scissor lift and an open window. They fit together perfectly, like two peas in a pod. I knew this was my one-and-only shot. I lower the platform down, moving as quietly as possible as I go up. Climbing through the window, I hear a noise. It's a sort of groaning, creaky, squeaky noise. I remember that this isn't a horror movie, or is it? I am running down the stairs when I realise that horror movies are fiction, and the monsters in them don't exist. I'm being paranoid. Suddenly, my legs stopped working and before I knew it, I was falling head over heels down the stairs. I see the place where once before I knew I had to explore.

But there was no floor, just an open abyss. Before I knew it I would be falling into it. I tried to stop and regain my balance onto my two feet. Doing that is much easier said than done. I'm about a metre away from falling when I finally manage to stop myself. I stand up and look into the hole. It's dark. It looks just like space without the stars. Suddenly, I hear a creak. I don’t jump out of my skin, but I do actually jump. Right into the hole. I start to fall. I'm still falling after what seems like hours. Finally, I see a light; is this what it feels like just before you die? I woke up to hard ground.

Opening my eyes, I hope to see my room or the hotel. I look up off the ground to see a moa, a bird that has been extinct for over 1,000 years. Without warning, the moa runs away. After a minute or two I decide to follow the moa. I heard it before I saw it, and I'm glad about that. When I heard it, at first I thought it was a ghost as it made some sort of ghostly warble. The noise it made was like a lonely flute playing in an empty cathedral. Then there was the noise of cracking twigs. People were coming towards me! Hearing the thumping of feet behind me, I ran as fast as my legs would go.

Rounding a corner, I saw the same light as I did when I arrived here. I jump into the light just as I hear the confused grunts of the people who were chasing me. Light started to swirl and swirl. Just when I thought the swirling couldn't get any worse, it stopped. A voice stopped me from screaming. I think it said: Get off the ground and start cooking dinner. Or maybe: Why are you even at the mines? But I didn't care-all I wanted was to go home. I looked up and saw a man in dusty grey overalls with a leather jacket. He had a pickaxe over one shoulder and he was holding out his grubby hand for me to grab.

I shrieked in horror; running for about the one thousandth time today. Sprinting past a miner's loot, I saw a huge chunk of precious gold. As I take it, I see the baby blue light shining out of a mine. Jumping into the light, the world started to swirl. I hear my mum yelling at me to get up. I groan as I roll over thinking what a crazy dream. I went to turn off my alarm clock that would probably beep its head off in a few minutes. Instead of hitting my alarm I touched what felt like a piece of concrete. I look at my bedside table. Where my alarm would usually be was a glittering chunk of gold.
